Tomasz Bilczewski, PhD., born 1978 in Kraków, graduated with distinction from the Jagiellonian University (Institute of Polish Studies). He is currently an assistant professor (adiunkt) in the Department of International Polish Studies JU and vice-director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities JU. In 2008 he received his PhD degree from the Jagiellonian University (doctoral dissertation: "Comparative Literature as an Art of Interpretation in the Context of Translation Studies). In 2002 – 2005 he held the post of secretary to the Chancellor of the Jagiellonian University and to the Chancellor's Commission for the Implementation of the Bologna Declaration. In 2002 he graduated from Collegium Invisibile in Warsaw (comparative literature, literary theory). He is a triple laureate of the scholarship awarded by the Minister of National Education and Sport. In 2000 he was a Socrates/Erasmus student at Gent University. He has received academic grants from the Stanislaw Estreicher Fund (2004), the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (2004), the Karolina de Brzezie Lanckoronski Foundation (Polish Academy of Skills, London 2005). He has completed research projects at the University of Oxford, Université Paris IV Sorbonne, Centre for Translation, Communication and Culture, KU Leuven. In 2003, 2004, and 2005 he received Chancellor's Award for professional achievements. In 2005-2006 he was lecturing at Indiana University as the Kosciuszko Foundation visiting professor. Alumnus of "The CETRA Research Programme in Translation Studies", KU Leuven 2007. In 2008 he was awarded the Polish Science Foundation scholarship within Professor Michał Paweł Markowski’s subsidy.
