The Department of International Polish Studies (IPS) was founded at the Faculty of Polish Studies of the Jagiellonian University as a part of the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities due to the initiative of Professor Michał Paweł Markowski with the full acceptance of the authorities of the Faculty and the Rector of the University. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international academic circles have enthusiastically offered their support as well.

Aiming toward the goal of augmenting and stimulating the intellectual and academic environment in Kraków, IPS looks toward the creation of an international and multicultural community of scholars and students dedicated to humanistic and artistic concerns and research. It is in this way that IPS intends to expand and enlarge the prominent scholarly center found in Kraków and the Jagiellonian University. The Department hopes to group those interested in establishing a fertile thinking circle at the heart of the central European melting pot of cultures.

Students will find in Kraków a friendly and beautiful city in which to study. They will also encounter IPS as a venue in which to discuss the most important issues of contemporary culture with close reference to the past and present of the Polish cultural heritage.
